In Pennsylvania - Delaware County, Philadelphia, most of Montgomery County, some lower Bucks County
In Delaware - Wilmington area In New Jersey - some of Gloucester, Camden, and Burlington Counties About this county. DELAWARE COUNTY, PA (hence "delco" doula), all the following little towns and boroughs are listed and served. This small county is large in population and yet have very limited birthing options with only three hospitals that have labor and delivery floors - 1.) Crozer-Chester Medical Center, 2.) Riddle Memorial Hospital, and 3.) Delaware County Memorial Hospital. The latter being the only one that offers midwifery care. (no longer as of 2016) The c/s rates are as follows - 1.) 34.3%, 2.) 32.8%, and 3.) 27.5% . (These statistics are the latest published, from 2008, but however, each year since 2000, have increased. DCMH's c/s rate was at a 19.3% just 10 yrs ago. There is just one birth center here, Lifecycle Woman Care, otherwise known as "The Bryn Mawr Birth Center", homebirth is uncommon as there are only a handful of midwives providing this and fill quickly. Independent childbirth classes and doulas have been very sparse and concentrated mainly in one area of the county due to a higher demand from the culture of the community. Until lately...We (childbirth professionals) who live here (many fairly new or new to the area) are collaborating to spread our goodness around to this county which needs to be a focus. Women need to know their options here, too! We are building a stronger birth community and increasing the doulas serving this county little by little! If you live in any of the places listed below and want to know more about what this county (or nearby) has to offer in terms of childbirth education classes, midwives, holistic prenatal care practitioners, alternative health options, and doula support or more - please contact me. There are options for every person at every budget.
