~About Lori~
"The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new..."

Lori earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education from Millersville University in 2002. After college, she spent her time working as a junior high school special education teacher, nanny, soccer coach, and then finally, a full time MOM – the job that has taught her the most!
Lori's path to becoming a doula was inspired after having her own doula support for the labor and birth of her first son in 2006. Ever since that transformative experience of giving birth with the support of midwives and a doula and falling in love with this perfectly amazing baby, she has had a passion in her for wanting to support and encourage mothers-to-be on their own paths. Becoming a mother was so life changing for her in many positive ways. She realized how important it was to be supported on the journey, though. She became involved with La Leche League soon after and learned everything she could about breastfeeding, babywearing, family nutrition, and conscious parenting. After the birth of her second son, Lori attended a Birth Arts International (BAI) doula training course in September of 2009 with the great Beth Goldberg, MSW, CPM. While working hard as a 'doula-mom', Lori completed the BAI education program and earned her doula certification. She attended a refreshing seminar in Feb. 2012 in NYC through Lamaze International with two wonderful teachers, Judith Lothian, RN, PhD, LCCE, FACCE and Allison Walsh, IBCLC, LCCE, FACCE. She passed the LCCE exam in April 2012, making her a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE). She is thrilled to be associated with this organization after years of respecting all the resources they offer expectant parents and those of us working as birth professionals.
Lori still remains active with her local La Leche League group. In 2014, Lori has met the requirements to earn her Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) certification through Healthy Children's Center for Breastfeeding as well as her postpartum doula knowledge via training through CAPPA, one of the most long standing, well known, and respected professional doula training organizations. Lori took Karen Strange's Neonatal Resuscitation class in May 2012 and earned her NRP card. In the past she has attended the Midwifery Today conferences, participating in sessions that she could apply to her doula support. She has attended childbirth preparation courses in various settings covering a wide range of information and techniques for coping with labor, local ICAN meetings and classes for helping women in planning VBAC's and/or preventing cesareans, regional La Leche League conferences, and in the Spring of 2011 she completed a 9 week peer breastfeeding counselor course taught by Nikki Lee through the Phila Dept of Health. She learns the most from each new experience with her clients, but also from her professional network that continues to grow. She is happy to be part of this thriving birth and breastfeeding community in the Philadelphia area!
In addition to being a friend to many important women in her life, her previous roles and personal background have impacted all that she applies to her doula support. She lost her mom to cancer as a child and understands what it is like to be a mother without a mother. That loss has shaped her in many ways, but out of it came a real desire to want to help other women be relaxed, confident, and encouraged as they enter motherhood. She values her sensitivity, listening skills, and empathetic heart just as much as her knowledge and experience of pregnancy, birth, the post partum period, and breastfeeding. She had two very different pregnancies and births, but is happy for both experiences because they help her now as a doula and 'space holder' for women. She believes every woman deserves to have support from another mother who is informed and compassionate towards individual situations and willing to help her navigate her own personal path in becoming the mother she wants to be. She "believes a woman’s journey to motherhood starts in pregnancy and hits its first of many climaxes, with birth."
Lori is passionate about spreading love and empowering women and families through information and support.
She lives with her wonderful husband and two energetic little boys (10 & 7) on the border of Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties. (2017)
