~ Inspiring Videos and Slideshows ~

VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean)/HBAC (Home Birth After Cesarean) slideshow stories told:

HBA2C - This is an absolutely amazing story.  Includes videos of all 3 births with important captions. Disclosure:  For me, and I imagine most (especially those who've had a cesarean) - the second cesarean surgery is pretty difficult to watch.  However, I can't help but post this and hope people watch it all the way through to see her victorious home water birth and her letter to her doctor.
HBA2C - After an unfortunately typical induction-distress- cesarean birth, she is forced into a second by her military doctor and higher ups, and then births her third baby at home. Interview included.
                              VBA3C - "Faith"
HBAC - touching slideshow of a mom's heartbreaking cesarean and journey to birth vaginally...at home in the water.
A hospital VBAC (The story belongs to Gina, one of my most favorite bloggers/fellow birth advocates) - You can follow her and her upcoming 2VBAC (this time a planned HBAC) at The Feminist Breeder

Natural Childbirth of Twins and Triplets
Normal births - Yes, really...the majority of babies can be born this normally, without intervention.  Check it out!  Favorite Quote from the slideshow, "The first intervention in birth that a healthy woman takes...is when she walks out of her front door in labor. From that intervention, all others will follow." - Michael Rosenthal, OB/GYN

No music or photo slideshows below, just raw normal births: (Disclosure: yes, you might see babies coming out of vaginas!)
(If you want to see all too common birth taking place in hospital settings with epidural pain relief, moms birthing on their backs with legs in stirrups and no feeling or control, and baby's cord clamped immediately and taken off of mom within seconds to be handled roughly by strangers, then you can watch any of the birth shows on TV.  There is more out there, so I'd like to give some examples of 'how birth is actually quite normal, natural, and can be handled gently and respectfully to the mom and baby...)

                              At Home in Orland, ME
                              - Short 7 min. film. I like the normalcy of so many things at this birth.  From the midwife adjusting to the mama in the bathtub as she starts feeling pushy - she steps in to check her instead of asking the mama to get out :), the easy feelings in the atmosphere and house, her birthing on her side instinctively, easing out of baby head, and the simple unwrapping of the cord around the neck.  I also love how the film shows the time after the birth and how calm that is as well. No rushing around, no clamping, smiling  joyful support team, bright-eyed baby getting familiar on mom's breast.

At Home in Auburn, ME - Short 6 min. film.  Get past the first few seconds, and you're golden.  :)  Watching the entire thing is important!  Gives the viewer an opportunity to see the intensity rise and fall, how short lived that part is, the mama's very important 'self-talk', and her thankfulness (immediately after) for being home.  For more videos a part of this series called At Home in Maine, visit http://www.mainehomebirth.wordpress.com/

Seamus' homebirth - I love that this shows the normalcy of 1) the intensity of pushing and crowning with real live birthing mama noises, and 2) the cord around the neck, and how it's easily handled (as usual).  Also the nice slow easing out of baby head.  I don't love the tone in some of the coaches voices you hear, but that's me...I'm sensitive to that in particular.

Birth at Home - I like the awesome pushing sounds coming from this mama, the dad's participation in the birth, and the loving support of other women as they spiral in towards her to be so physically close as she pushes her baby out.

A natural hospital birth - I cannot even tell you all the things I love about this!  If only American women could have the opportunities to birth in such an atmosphere within a hospital setting.  I wish she wasn't so apologetic, but overall, it shows a laid back atmosphere where a mom listens to her body and births intuitively, changing her position to all fours while her midwives are supportive and encouraging her through the intensity of her sensations. Notice the meconium in the water and the no fuss about it as they let the baby receive more blood and oxygen from her cord while receiving mom's warmth, smell, voice, and comfort next to her skin instead of the 'norm' here with mec, which is to immediately clamp/cut/take baby.  Also they put baby right down under mom and allowed her to pick up her baby, and she is perfectly relaxed and feeling those good natural birth hormones, ready to bond.  I love it. This was the best hospital birth video I found on the web, and I looked around quite a bit!
