~Sibling Doula~

Some birth locations may allow your other children to be present for the labor and birth of your new baby, however, they typically require that a young child have their own adult support person. Now this may not be difficult for those with other family members or friends who you were already planning on being at your birth. For other families, this may be quite a challenge for various reasons. A doula can be a good option for you! The benefits of hiring a doula for your child or children is that this woman has been around births before many times and is comfortable and accustomed to not only watching and anticipating the events of a labor unfold, but usually has experience calmly explaining what is happening and why to family members and children. She can also help your child or children participate in supporting you throughout your labor, whether that is in the room, out of the room, or a little of both. Some children are already sleeping or need to go to sleep for a period of time during their mom's labor. Some want to play nearby. Some love helping mommy by running little errands, completing helpful tasks, physical touch, preparing items for you and or a new baby brother or sister while waiting for the baby or right after the birth.

Since I have a good amount of birth experience under my belt, young children of my own, as well as experience teaching children of all different ages, this is a role I am more than comfortable in! As cliche as it sounds - I LOVE kids! I am passionate about supporting women and families on their journey, so this is a role I really enjoy! I will meet with your family a couple of times prior to the labor to allow your child or children to get familiar with me and so that I can get to know them better.
